Founded by renowned designer and seamstress Ceri Gilmore, Hen House started life in a small shop-come-workspace in The Market Place in Devizes, predominately offering a bridal design and bespoke dress making service.
Now over ten years later, Hen House has grown into a family-run full-service outfitters for both ladies and gents.
Ceri's daughter Harriet explains; “We opened our women’s fashion boutique The Gallery to cater for life’s more informal occasions, and in the Autumn of 2022, we seized the opportunity to relocate into larger premises when 1 Wine Street became available. Located in the heart of Devizes in a building that has ranged from a Town Hall to a bank in its previous lives, this is a fantastic space in which to showcase our clothing, footwear and accessory collections.”
“We aim to stock a wide choice of quality womenswear ranging from size 8 to 24 and ultimately offer something a bit different to what you can typically find on the High Street” says Harriet. “Whether that’s our warm welcome and knowledgeable, personal shopping experience to the diversity of our designers that originate from Italy to Denmark to Belgium and even Australia. Our brands are chosen for their design and quality, but we also like to mix more high-end designers with everyday pieces to appeal to a range of budgets and lifestyles.”
What’s more, having the Hen House professional sewing room situated above the boutique is another feature that really sets The Gallery apart as you can opt to make the most of a tailoring service by their in-house team of seamstresses for the perfect fit.
“One-size certainly doesn’t fit all, and knowing you are wearing something that fits you well can be a great boost to self-confidence. If we feel good, we tend to look good and vice versa” says Harriet.
“Clothes and styling are important to so many women as they not only reflect our personality but can help us feel ready to take on the world - whether that’s at a significant work meeting or a big social event - or even help us channel a particular mood. Planning and shopping for your holiday wardrobe is a key part of the fun of going away and I love the fact there’s plenty of bright colours and bold patterns this summer that instantly raise a holiday spirit.”
